Beating the afternoon slump: a simple routine that does not rely on a third coffee
By Melt Daily ·
Almost everyone knows the mid-afternoon dip: heavy eyelids, rereading the same paragraph, reaching for a snack you do not really want. A supplement is the last piece of the puzzle, not the first. Here are the everyday habits that make the biggest difference, and where a strip like UP can fit.
Start with sleep
The most reliable fix for the afternoon slump is the night before. Adults are generally advised to get 7 or more hours of sleep. If you are routinely running short, no strip, coffee or snack will fully cover it.
Get outside or near a window
Daylight and a short change of scenery are an easy reset. A five to ten minute walk outside, or even moving your work near a window, helps a lot of people feel more awake.
Drink some water
Mild dehydration can leave you feeling tired and foggy. Keeping a water bottle in sight is one of the simplest habits to build.
Rethink lunch
A very large or very heavy lunch can make the afternoon harder. A balanced plate with some protein, fiber and vegetables tends to sit better than a big bowl of refined carbs alone.
Time your caffeine
Caffeine works best when you are intentional with it. Rather than a third full cup of coffee at 4 pm, a smaller amount a little earlier is easier on your evening. One UP strip contains 50 mg of caffeine from green tea, about the same as a cup of black tea and roughly half a typical cup of brewed coffee, plus 30 mg of L-theanine and 1000 mcg of vitamin B12.
A common cutoff is early afternoon, so caffeine has time to fade before bed. Most healthy adults are advised by the FDA to stay at or under 400 mg of caffeine a day in total.
If you would rather skip caffeine
Not everyone wants caffeine in the afternoon. Our SHARP strip has no caffeine; it pairs lion's mane, cordyceps, maitake and shiitake in a chocolate flavor, and many people keep it as a workday strip instead.
When tiredness is more than a slump
Persistent, unexplained fatigue that does not improve with rest is worth bringing up with a doctor. It can have many causes, and a simple checkup is the right place to start.
If you are pregnant, nursing, taking any medication or managing a health condition, check with your doctor or pharmacist before adding a supplement.
